Wisconsin legislators are considering adopting more stringent measures to address reckless driving.
A Senate committee is scheduled to convene today to review a proposal that would authorize law enforcement to impound vehicles if the drivers attempt to evade police, engage in high-speed pursuits on highways, exceed the speed limit by 25 miles per hour or more, or possess a suspended or revoked driver’s license.
This initiative aims to assist the Milwaukee Police in addressing the issue of reckless driving within the city.
Milwaukee currently has an ordinance allowing the towing of vehicles driven recklessly, but this is only applicable if the vehicles belong to the drivers, which is often not the case.
The same Senate panel will also consider raising penalties for individuals caught driving with a suspended or revoked license.
