A Fond du Lac man accused of attacking his mother with a hammer has been found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
Judge Anthony Nehls returned that verdict after Aristotle Wurtz pleaded guilty to a charge of Attempted 1st Degree Intentional Homicide with Use of a Dangerous Weapon.
An additional charge of Aggravated Battery with Use of a Dangerous Weapon was dismissed but read into the record.
Wurtz was arrested after his father called the police back in January reporting that he received a text from his wife that her son, Wurtz, was trying to kill her.
She told officers that she was doing the dishes when her son attacked her unprovoked. She was able to get to a hospital, and Wurtz’s father told police that his son takes a prescription for schizophrenia.
Judge Nehls also ordered Wurtz to undergo an in-patient supplemental evaluation, with another hearing scheduled for December 21st.
