Friday afternoon we announced that Greg Enz was fired as the Manitowoc Lincoln Football Coach.
In a letter sent out by Enz, he said the decision was based on “performance issues”, but also noted that these issues were never discussed with him directly.
The story has divided the community, with some jumping to his side and others praising the decision.
One person commented on Facebook, “What a huge loss for the kids… Mr. Enz is one of those once in a lifetime kind of coaches…Life lessons off the field are 100% more important than a winning season. A great Coach, Educator, Friend, and advocate for all students…” while another said, “If it all comes down to wins and losses a lot of “other” sports at Lincoln should be having coaching changes then.”
Others supported the decision, with one person saying, “Gotta win … that’s the expectation” and others saying there was “more to the story.”
It is not clear if the Manitowoc Public School District or Lincoln Athletics Department has any candidates in mind to take over the role.
