The Wisconsin Department of Justice has identified the man who shot a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s K9 last weekend.
Both the Sheriff’s Office and the Fond du Lac Police Department sent law enforcement to a reported disturbance involving weapons in the 500 block of Drury Place.
Deputy Blaine Evans and K9 Iro approached a vehicle belonging to 34-year-old Kyle Massie and the two exchanged gunfire.
Massie and Iro were both struck, with Massie dying at the scene despite first aid attempts by officers on the scene.
Iro has since continued his recovery, with an update issued Wednesday noting that he is once again eating regular dog food and is no longer on an IV.
Deputy Evans is currently on administrative leave, which is standard practice in an officer-involved shooting, especially one where a civilian dies.
