Governor Tony Evers Official Portrait
Wisconsin’s Governor, Tony Evers, has announced the allocation of $170 million to support childcare providers in the state.
These funds will be sourced from previously unused federal resources.
Evers has issued an executive order to ensure the continued operation of the Child Care Counts program for an additional year.
This program was originally initiated during the COVID-19 pandemic but ceased to operate after the expiration of the pandemic-related emergency order earlier this year.
Governor Evers had previously requested $350 million from the state legislature to maintain the program for the next two years.
He argued that without additional financial support, some childcare providers might be forced to close their doors or increase fees for parents statewide.
However, some Republicans have criticized the governor’s approach, accusing him of political maneuvering by presenting these demands.
