Geraldine “Gerry” J. Soch (Sock), age 92, a lifelong Manitowoc resident, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023 at Shady Lane Nursing Home, Manitowoc.
She was born January 2, 1931 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Edward W. and Blanche G. (Matczynski) Karl. Gerry attended Lincoln High School, graduating with the class of 1948. She was employed with Mirro, Aluminum Specialty, Holy Family Memorial, and with the Housekeeping Department at the Manitowoc Clinic, retiring in 2003. On August 19, 1950, she married Donald W. Soch at St. Mary’s Catholic Church by Fr. John Landowski. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2010 before Donald passed away in January 2011. Gerry was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church (later St. Francis of Assisi), a member of their Rosary and Altar Society, and the Manitowoc Senior Center. She and Donald made many memories taking bus trips to Washington D.C., New York, Nashville, Branson, Philadelphia, Mount Rushmore, and Florida. She also liked doing crafts, reading, and reminiscing about the “good old days”.
Gerry is survived by daughter: Kathleen (Ronald) Dvorachek (Door-a-check), Manitowoc, and their children: Erica Dvorachek, Michael (Kimberly) Dvorachek, and Steven Dvorachek, all of the Milwaukee area; daughter: Susan (Al) Herrmann, Whitelaw, and their children: Matthew (Heidi) Herrmann, John (Lauren) Herrmann, and Patrick (Maegan) (Megan) Herrmann, all of Manitowoc; granddaughter: Lisa Soch and Lisa’s mother: Linda Lawrence; nine great-grandchildren: Megan, Katelyn, and Abigail, of the Milwaukee area and Dylan, Grayson, Hudson, Parker, Harlee, and McKenzie, of Manitowoc; one sister: Marge Teresin, Green Bay, and sister-in-law: Ethyl Karl, Manitowoc. She was preceded in death by her husband: Donald; son: Mike Soch; grandson: Christopher Soch; her parents; two brothers: Elroy Karl and Allen Karl; two sisters: Dolores Pozorski and Mary Hynek Herrmann; and four brothers-in-law: Roger Hynek, Andy Herrmann, Hank Pozorski, and Vern Teresin.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall, 1114 South 21st Street, Manitowoc with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. Officiating at the Mass will be the Rev. Doug LeCaptain with entombment to follow at Calvary Catholic Mausoleum, Manitowoc.
