A Manitowoc manufacturer is preparing to lay off an estimated 53 workers.
Dowco Inc has sent a letter to the Department of Workforce Development’s Dislocated Worker Unit where it was explained that the layoffs are due to the decision to “consolidate their product line” manufactured at the facility at 4230 Clipper Drive.
The closing process is set to begin on December 11th and will be complete by December 22nd.
The largest number of affected employees will be the sewing machine operators, as 22 of them are expected to be laid off, along with 14 upholsterers, two pattern designers, two designers, and several other positions held by one person each.
It was also noted in the letter that “it is impossible to predict with certainty which represented employees will ultimately be affected or the exact order in which individual employees will be separated.”
They did ensure the DWD that all employees will “be paid all earned wages and agreed upon benefits at the time of their termination.”
