In a recent release of standardized test scores by the Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin’s public school system has displayed noticeable improvements in comparison to the past few years.
However, the results still fall short of pre-pandemic performance levels.
While there has been progress, the data paints a sobering picture. Only 39 percent of students are performing at grade level in English, with a slightly lower 38 percent meeting the grade level in math.
These percentages are higher than what has been observed in recent years but continue to lag behind the educational standards set before the pandemic.
Education advocates argue that these figures indicate that a significant portion of Wisconsin’s student population, roughly 60 percent, still struggles to achieve grade-level proficiency in reading and writing.
This highlights the persistent challenges facing the state’s public education system.
The Department of Public Instruction stresses that standardized test scores offer just one perspective on the overall health of the state’s public schools.
