The inquiry into the conduct of Chippewa County’s Sheriff, Travis Hakes, is set to persist after the County Board’s decision last night to continue the investigation.
Although there are no fresh developments in the case, some supervisors are motivated to delve deeper in the hope of unearthing new information.
Sheriff Hakes has come under scrutiny following allegations that he sent sexually suggestive memes to a former 911 dispatcher.
Hakes vehemently denies any wrongdoing and asserts that his political rivals are the driving force behind the investigation.
In response to the situation, Chippewa County’s board is contemplating the possibility of petitioning the governor to consider the removal of Hakes from his position as sheriff, a decision that remains pending.
