State regulators are commencing the evaluation process today to assess whether We Energies can implement higher rates for electricity and natural gas.
The Wisconsin Public Service Commission is currently reviewing a proposal put forth by We Energies, seeking a three-percent increase in electric rates and a three- to five-percent hike in natural gas rates.
This electric rate increase request follows a prior increase from the previous year, culminating in a cumulative rise of 14.5 percent in prices over the course of two years, as proposed by We Energies.
The utility company contends that these rate hikes are necessary to facilitate the modernization of its infrastructure and fund the transition towards environmentally friendly energy sources.
