The city of Manitowoc is moving forward with developing River Point Drive.
During a special meeting on Tuesday (October 3rd), the common council approved a $339,000 bid from Vinton Construction Company for additional transporting of clean fill.
Manitowoc Community Development Director Adam Tegan says the project also includes some removal of a contaminated area.
He also says the city wants to be aggressive in moving forward with the project.
“Mainly due to the fact that this particular project does set the table for what we hope to accomplish next year,” he explained. “Basically, in addition to needing the clean fill, we also need to compress the soils that exist at River Point for the future installation of underground utilities.”
He says this project should get started within the next few months.
It will help get things ready for private development.
Tegan says the city has accepted several offers to purchase on several properties in the area north of 10th Street near the new River Point Apartments.
But before anything can be developed, the city needs to put in infrastructure like water, sewer, and roads.
One project includes raising the ground by Braun Building Center up six feet.
