A lawsuit aiming to eliminate Wisconsin’s absentee ballot witness requirement has been filed.
This legal action was initiated by a national Democratic law firm on the previous day, contending that the obligation for a witness to authenticate absentee ballots is in violation of the Voting Rights Act.
Under current Wisconsin law, individuals voting by absentee ballot are mandated to have a witness confirm their identity.
Wisconsin is not unique in this requirement, as nine other states also necessitate absentee ballot witnesses, while three states go even further, mandating notarization for absentee ballots.
The Wisconsin Elections Commission has yet to provide a response to the lawsuit.
