Wisconsin legislators are preparing to advance a proposal that allocates a substantial sum of $600 million for enhancements to the Brewers’ ballpark.
The Assembly Committee On State Affairs is scheduled to conduct a hearing on Thursday to examine the plan, which envisions the utilization of taxpayer funds for the purpose of renovating and maintaining American Family Field.
Under this proposal, the state would contribute approximately $400 million, while the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County would collectively provide an additional $200 million, with the ballclub itself pledging $100 million towards the ballpark’s improvements.
Nevertheless, there are dissenting voices among lawmakers who harbor reservations about utilizing taxpayer funds for the stadium, citing concerns over the magnitude of the financial commitment.
It is important to note that American Family Field is a taxpayer-owned facility, and proponents argue that taxpayers are financially responsible for the stadium’s maintenance regardless of the Brewers’ status.
In exchange for this infusion of public funds, the Brewers have committed to remain in Milwaukee until 2050, offering a long-term assurance to the community.
