Legislators in the Wisconsin State Capitol are deliberating a proposal aimed at imposing bail requirements on individuals who have previously absconded while on bail.
A Senate panel is scheduled to convene today (September 27th) to discuss the proposed policy, which entails mandating a minimum cash bail of $5,000 for individuals with a prior bail jumping conviction on their record.
Furthermore, if an individual has both a bail jumping conviction and a conviction for a violent crime, the proposed law would necessitate a minimum cash bail of $10,000.
Presently, in the state of Wisconsin, judges are only permitted to impose bail on individuals whom they perceive as potential flight risks or as posing a significant threat to public safety within the community.
