Dorris M. Rappel, age 93, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center.
Dorris was born on December 31, 1929 in Manitowoc to the late Reuben and Martha (Ploederl) Bergner. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1948. On February 18, 1950, she married John F. Rappel at the former St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on June 20, 2014. Dorris was employed as a secretary for several companies in Manitowoc. She retired from Roncalli High School. Dorris was an awesome quilter and gifted her “creations” to her children and grandchildren!
Survivors include Dorris’ two children, Leatrice (John) Crawford, Liverpool, NY; and John Michael (Danielle) Rappel, Manitowoc; four grandchildren, Aaron (Kristin) Crawford, Littleton, CO; Martha (Jeremy Crowley) Crawford, Camillus, NY; Christopher (Amber) Crawford, White Bluff, TN; and Allie Rappel, Madison, WI; great granddaughter, Sloane Lucy Crawford, White Bluff, TN; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dorris was preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Martha Bergner; husband, John F. Rappel; son, Patrick J. Rappel; two brothers, Harry J. (Lois) Bergner and Clarence (Lucille) Bergner; and infant sister, Leatrice Bergner.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at St Francis of Assisi on Grand, 1416 Grand Avenue, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. David Bergner. A luncheon for family and friends will then be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel with entombment of Dorris’ cremated remains at Calvary Mausoleum. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:30 a.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com
