The sheriff of Chippewa County is vehemently denying any wrongdoing and expressing surprise at the allegations raised within his own office.
Sheriff Travis Hakes declared yesterday that county supervisors have constructed an inaccurate portrayal of his actions, and he suspects they may be attempting to force him out of his role.
This controversy stems from a closed-door meeting held earlier this week by supervisors, who convened to address allegations of a hostile work environment made by a member of the sheriff’s department.
Additionally, supervisors have scheduled another meeting for the upcoming month.
Hakes, who campaigned on a platform of greater transparency as sheriff, reaffirmed his commitment to his campaign promises during his statement yesterday.
It’s worth noting that Hakes assumed the position of sheriff after winning the election in November.
