A firefighter with the Appleton Police Department is now a record-holder as he raises money for veterans with cancer.
Firefighter Cory Asimus took part in the Community First Fox Cities Marathon and finished the course in a time of 4 hours 53 minutes.
That may not seem like that impressive of a time, but what makes it a world record is that he did it with a 100-pound rucksack on his back.
Asimus, who is a veteran of the Marine Corps, has been competing in several events while raising awareness and funds for a group known as Project Vaspire, which is a “faith-based community and clothing collection raising funds for Veteran families diagnosed with cancer or other rare diseases from toxic exposures.”
The Friends of the Appleton Fire Department praised Asimus’ dedication and hard work on Facebook, saying “We are all so proud of Cory and his dedication and thank you to everyone who has supported his mission.”
