Manitowoc Public Utilities is teaming up with GRNE Solar to build a solar energy facility on the south side of the city.
The solar energy plant will be located on Hecker Road, just south of Viebahn Street, with the original plan to build a 1,000-kilowatt facility.
The public was then asked to sign up to be a part of the project and to get their energy from the facility.
Due to overwhelming public interest, MPU recently filed a second request to the PSCW to expand the solar site to 1,500 KW.
That request was approved late last month.
In a news release, the local utility provider explained, “This will not change the site location, there is enough room for the additional panels. This will, however, open up additional blocks for subscription.”
