Republicans in Wisconsin’s Capitol are advocating for a shift in the state’s political map-drawing methodology, a proposal firmly opposed by the governor.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos unveiled a plan yesterday suggesting that the Legislative Reference Bureau take charge of designing new maps, thus deviating from the involvement of lawmakers or the courts.
Vos asserts that this approach closely mirrors the commission system employed by Iowa for map creation.
In response to this unexpected proposition, Governor Evers promptly rejected it yesterday, citing a lack of trust in Vos and the Republican party to craft impartial maps.
This development has emerged at a critical juncture, as Wisconsin’s political maps are currently on a trajectory toward the state Supreme Court, setting the stage for a potentially costly and protracted legal battle.
