Milwaukee County is making strides toward establishing itself as a sanctuary for transgender and non-binary individuals.
In a recent development, a county committee gave the green light to a proposal that seeks the full endorsement of the county board against potential future state legislation aimed at prohibiting, imposing fines upon, or penalizing gender-affirming healthcare practices.
The resolution does not differentiate between gender-affirming care for adults and minors; rather, it takes a stance against any forthcoming initiatives that seek to restrict gender-affirming surgeries.
County Supervisor Willie Johnson Junior expressed that the resolution is fundamentally rooted in combating discrimination.
On the other hand, Supervisor Deanna Alexander has raised concerns about the declaration’s broad scope and its implications for responsible policymaking.
