They may have missed the postseason, but the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers can hang their hat on a strong finish to the season, capped off with a series win against the top team in the league.
The Rattlers took down the Cedar Rapids Kernels 8-5 Sunday, securing the 4-2 series victory.
Aaron Ashby got the start for Wisconsin, allowing one run on two hits through the first inning before Edwin Jiminez came on for four and two-thirds innings of relief.
He allowed 6 hits and 4 runs, which was all the offense the Kernels could muster. Miguel Guerrero and Nick Merkel would each allow one hit through the remainder of the contest.
At the plate, Eduarqui Fernandez went a perfect 3 for 3 while Eduardo Garcia, Ben Metzinger, and Terence Doston would pound out 2 hits a piece as a part of an 11-hit day.
The Rattlers, despite ending the season by winning 12 of their last 14, missed the playoffs.
The Peoria Chiefs snuck in instead due to their season series record.
The 2024 season will kick off on April 5th with a series against the Chiefs.
