Milwaukee Police have made a significant policy shift by deciding not to disclose the race or gender of crime victims, aiming to foster greater inclusivity.
The city officially introduced this change last Friday, prompted by an incident in which law enforcement initially misidentified the gender of a transgender woman who lost her life due to a shooting earlier this year.
Under this new policy, Milwaukee Police will maintain their practice of reporting on the race and gender of suspects involved in crimes but will refrain from doing so for victims.
However, there are concerns among some members of the community that this reduced flow of information could potentially obscure the public’s understanding of the actual scope of Milwaukee’s crime issues.
