Individuals, rather than businesses, would bear the brunt of the proposed pricing adjustments by We Energies.
The utility company has submitted a request to state regulators for a comprehensive rate increase scheduled for the upcoming year.
Under this proposed plan, residential customers would face a substantial increase of over 14 percent in their rates, while small businesses would experience a slightly over 11 percent rate hike.
In contrast, manufacturers and other large businesses would see their rates surge by nearly 10 percent.
We Energies justifies these rate hikes by citing the necessity to cover rising operational costs and fund the transition toward more environmentally friendly energy sources.
Advocates of consumer interests argue that Wisconsin’s residents should not be burdened with subsidizing the state’s larger corporate entities through these rate hikes.
