A Milwaukee County supervisor is holding the jail responsible for an incident where 27 inmates barricaded themselves inside the facility’s library.
Supervisor Ryan Clancy asserted yesterday that the inmates’ actions were not motivated by a desire to cause trouble but rather stemmed from the prolonged, deplorable conditions they endured within the library.
On August 12th, the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office reported that the 27 inmates refused to vacate the library, citing a demand for increased exercise time.
Resolving the situation required the intervention of a jail SWAT team to gain access and safely remove the inmates.
This week, Milwaukee County prosecutors formally filed charges against all 27 individuals involved.
