Republican lawmakers at the Wisconsin Capitol are making another attempt to implement a substantial tax reduction initiative.
Recently, Republicans introduced a noteworthy tax cut proposal amounting to $3 billion. This plan aims to provide tax relief to individuals earning between $37,000 and $405,000 annually.
Additionally, the proposal seeks to eliminate Wisconsin’s income tax on retirement income up to $150,000.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos conveyed that this plan could result in an approximately $700 tax reduction for a majority of the state’s residents.
He indicated that the funds for these cuts would be drawn from Wisconsin’s considerable surplus.
Vos and his fellow Republicans underscored that their intention is to give back surplus funds to the citizens of Wisconsin.
However, considering Governor Evers’ track record, it’s notable that he previously vetoed a Republican tax cut plan.
It appears likely that he will take a similar stance towards this new proposal as well.
