The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers held off a late rally by the Quad Cities River Bandits to take game one of their series 4-3.
The Rattlers struck first in front of a home crowd at Fox Cities Stadium, plating two runs in the bottom of the first.
Their lead was quickly eliminated, as starter Nate Peterson gave up two runs the next half inning, but Wisconsin would tag on two more runs in the 6th.
Peterson and relievers Brannon Jordan and Miguel Guerrero would keep the Bandits scoreless through the 8th, and closer Shane Smith would slam the door shut on a comeback attempt in the 9th to secure the save.
Matthew Wood had a great night at the plate, going 2 for 2 and knocking in a pair of runs, while Hendry Mendez would also bring home a runner with his lone hit of the night.
Game two of the series is slated for this afternoon.
Cameron Wagoner will get the start with a 12:10 p.m. first pitch.
