Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig
Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig says games, rides, live music, and food all draw a lot of people to the County Fair each summer.
However, Hartwig explains one of the biggest things law enforcement deals with every year is missing children, and he says “We understand. It can happen very easily.”
So, the sheriff has a couple of recommendations.
“One thing I always like to mention to parents especially when they’re going out to a location like that is write down your phone number and your name and put it in your child’s pocket,” Sheriff Hartwig said while on WOMT’s Be My Guest program. “Secondly, when you get to those venues take a photo of your child.”
Hartwig noted that, “especially at the fair all of the county and city officers have smartphones with them at that time. So, if you’re ever separated from your child or loved one while you’re there and if you have that picture on your phone you can easily transfer that to our officers and we can find them easily.”
He also said it would help officers as they would know exactly what your child is wearing and what they look like on that day.
The sheriff added there are different types of apps such as Life 360 and Find My to help reunite missing children with their parents.
