Two Milwaukee women are now facing hate crime charges following an assault on a group of Muslim women.
The District Attorney’s office has recently levied felony charges against Miracle Reed, 34, and Payton Smith, 30.
The incident, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, involved an attack on a gathering of Muslim women.
According to Milwaukee Police, the altercation occurred on a Sunday, during which Reed and Smith reportedly shouted, ‘We’re Black, and we protect our own.’
Subsequently, they physically assaulted the group, forcibly removing head scarves from two women and engaging in physical violence.
Notably, this marks the first instance since 2019 in which the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office has pursued hate crime charges against an individual.
