We Energies has released a statement regarding the unfortunate death of an elderly man, 84-year-old Alton Smith, who passed away after experiencing a power outage.
According to the company, Smith did not report the outage, and he was without power for approximately 20 hours.
The Milwaukee County medical examiner determined that Smith’s oxygen machine failed to function due to the lack of electricity, leading to his passing.
A spokesperson from We Energies emphasized that they always prioritize emergency cases, but even if they had been aware of Smith’s specific situation, the circumstances might have limited their ability to intervene significantly.
Friday night’s storms caused widespread power outages in and around Milwaukee, affecting as many as 90 thousand people.
We Energies is undoubtedly working diligently to restore power to the affected areas and prevent further incidents.
