
The Manitowoc American Legion Post 88 baseball team may have been out hit yesterday by Kaukauna at the AAA State Tournament, but they kept their championship hopes alive with a 6-2 win.
Manitowoc jumped out to a 1-0 lead right out of the gate, but Kaukauna would take the lead with a pair of runs in the 2nd inning.
Manitowoc would then score 5 runs over the next three innings to secure the win. Pitcher Eyan Dessellier got the start, giving up all 7 hits and both Kaukauna runs over 5 and two-thirds innings, but he also struck out 12 batters.
Bryce Erdmann would close out the game with a flawless zero-hit performance.
Erdman also led the offensive attack, going 2-2 while Dan Schmitz’s lone hit was a 2-run shot in the 5th inning.
Meanwhile, Sheboygan beat Double Days 6-4, meaning Manitowoc will take on Double Days at 5:00 this evening in Marinette, which will be followed by Sheboygan vs. Eau Claire at 8:00 p.m.
The winners will then play at 8:00 tomorrow night.
