Leota Augusta (Fricke) Fischer, age 99, of Manitowoc, WI passed into eternal life on Monday morning July 17, 2023.
She was born in Manitowoc on August 18, 1923 to Reinhardt and Lillian (Franke) Fricke. She attended Manitowoc schools, and worked at A.H. Franke Co. & Mirro Aluminum Co. On Oct. 16, 1948 she married Albert A. Fischer at The Little Brown Church in the Vale, in Nashua, IA. Albert preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1995. Together they grew a family, first in Manitowoc, then in Shokopee, MN. They moved back to Manitowoc in 1960’s to be back with old friends, where she lived for the last 60 years. Leota was involved in the Manitowoc Jaycettes, Lincoln High Band Mothers, and for 50 years, First Lutheran Church Snip & Sew Group. Throughout her life, Leota put family first, she enjoyed raising her family, gathering with friends to play cards, building her annual Christmas Village, cooking, and especially canning pickles with her children. Leota was a generous person, who would help anyone in need.
Survivors include one son & daughter-in-law, Allan and Kathleen Fischer, granddaughters, Carrie (Larry) Grapenthin, and Ashley (David) Vaci. One daughter & son-in-law, Ruth and Paul Lukes., and grandson Daniel Lukes. Great grandchildren, Ellie and Lily Grapenthin, and Alex Vaci. One sister-in-law, Leila Fischer. Also, special longtime friends, Dorothy Ziarnik, and Ginger & Bill Barton. In addition to her husband Albert, and parents, Leota was preceded in death by her daughter, Lea Ann Fischer on April 29, 1968, her sister & brother-in-law, Naomi & Hank Allen, her brothers & sisters-in-laws, Roy & Catherine Fricke, and Arthur & Donna Fricke. Brother-in-laws and sister-in-law, Dr. John & Elinor Fischer and Dr. Mark Fischer, and special neighbors, Gary Krajnik & Rose Malick.
Cremation has occurred at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory, Manitowoc, and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 521 N. 8th Street, Manitowoc. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Andy Wendle. Following the service, Leota will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Memorials would be appreciated to: First Lutheran Snip & Sew, and the Red Cross.
