A group of determined Milwaukee aldermen is intensifying their opposition to the use of city funds to support the Brewers’ ballpark.
Five members of the city council declared Wednesday that they will not allocate a single cent towards stadium repairs.
Instead, they propose that the Brewers seek financial support from the private sector, contribute some of their own funds, and secure the remaining amount through credit options.
The lawmakers have been grappling with the challenge of securing nearly $400 million in taxpayer money for the renovation of American Family Field, with the aim of ensuring the Brewers’ long-term presence in Milwaukee.
Although the team has expressed its desire to remain in the city and remains optimistic about reaching a resolution, they have also acknowledged the need for assistance to maintain the stadium’s modernity and to sustain the team’s local presence.
