The Manitowoc American Legion Baseball team struggled over the weekend at the Central Wisconsin Classic in Plover.
The local team ran into a University of Texas commit on the mound in Eau Claire’s Cole Selvig, who held Manitowoc to 2 hits and Evan Gustafson, an Oregon State commit, who homered and pounded out a double.
Manitowoc lost that game 8-1, before also falling to Holmen 5-4, despite holding a 4-3 lead entering the 10th inning.
Manitowoc rallied in game 3, toppling Chippewa Falls 4-3 on the back of two-hit performances by Reece Stangel, Bryce Erdmann, and Tate Hartlaub.
Closing out the tournament, Manitowoc fell to host Plover 6-5 in 6 innings.
Stangel and Erdmann again led the offense, this time pounding out 3 hits each, but a walk-off home run for the home team sealed the deal.
Manitowoc, who had won 11 straight entering the tournament, are now 15-7, and will next play against Kimberly on Wednesday.
