State Senator Melissa Agard, the leading Democrat in the Wisconsin Senate, has accused Republicans in the state of waging a campaign against transgender children.
In a statement made Wednesday, Senator Agard criticized a newly proposed measure aimed at restricting girls’ sports to those assigned females at birth, arguing that it unfairly impacts transgender youth.
According to Agard, Republicans have repeatedly targeted transgender and non-binary individuals for political gain, using them as convenient scapegoats.
She further characterized the proposed legislation as a mere tactic to instill fear, lacking any substantive purpose.
Two Republican lawmakers introduced the plan, which suggests allowing transgender students to participate in co-ed teams rather than those specifically designated for biological girls and women.
