A fire late last week left a house in Appleton unlivable.
The Appleton Fire Department responded to the fire in the 200 block of South Fidelis Street Thursday evening, where crews reported heavy smoke upon their arrival.
The blaze was under control within about 30 minutes, and all four people living in the home, two of whom are children, were said to have escaped without injury.
Fire crews were also able to rescue the family guinea pig, which was in the upper level.
The fire was reported to have started in the basement of the home, however, the cause has not yet been determined.
The home itself is unlivable, having sustained $175,000 in damage, and it is not clear if the damage can be fixed.
