Gumby’s Club Fore a Cure has become a staple in Manitowoc County, as they have been supporting families affected by cancer for years.
Everyone knows the name, but do they know the story behind the group?
It all started in March of 2010, when Rob Roseff was diagnosed with Stage Four Kidney Cancer.
Club member Randy Heinzen explained while on WOMT’S Be My Guest program, “(Roseff) was diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer 13 years ago and he started this event. It was going to be a couple of guys to raise a couple hundred bucks for Relay for Life and it’s kind of blossomed into this monster of an event that’s become one of the premier events in Manitowoc for the summer. It’s all to help local families affected by cancer.”
Recently, Roseff, with the support of his wife Denise, has faced medical complications that he wants to inform the public about.
With the annual event featuring golfing, music, and raffles coming up, Heinzen shared that Rob had “a couple of minor setbacks. More than minor, I guess. He’s been in and out of the hospital for the last several weeks. They left for Mayo on Friday.”
Heinzen is unsure if Roseff will be able to make it to the event this upcoming weekend, but we know that he’s watching from Mayo Clinic, happy to see what he created, even if he doesn’t financially benefit from it.
“There’s no administrative cost, there’s no nothing. When we talk about local families affected by cancer, I think we can all agree that Rob and Denise have been a local family affected by cancer,” he said. “They don’t take anything from this club for their own fight and for their own problems. It’s always going to someone else and that says the moral character of both Rob and Denise and what they do.”
Despite fighting cancer, Rob Roseff continues to provide for the public time and time again.
This weekend, when you’re celebrating Gumby’s Club Fore a Cure, make sure to keep Rob in your thoughts and prayers, as we all have our own battles.
