The Door County Land Trust recently purchased 63.3 acres that will extend the protection of water quality and wildlife surrounding the organization’s Kellner Fen Natural Area in Sturgeon Bay.
This area is home to many rare orchids and carnivorous plants as well as migratory and breeding birds and unusual insects.
Kellner Fen is a unique wetland that has a large expanse of open water and a sedge mat that floats on the water.
Thousands of dollars were raised through community donations as a part of the Fischer challenge started by Xan and John Fischer last fall.
