Fans of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were treated not only to a Super-Sized Fireworks Show yesterday at Fox Cities Stadium, but they also watched as the Rattlers beat the Beloit Sky Carp 3-1.
Wisconsin batters scattered 8 hits on the night, and the pitching staff was nearly flawless through 8 innings, notching 12 strikeouts between four pitchers.
The Sky Carp would threaten a comeback in the 9th, but Closer Shane Smith would hold them off to secure his first save of the season.
Joe Grey Jr. would account for 3 of the Rattlers’ hits and had 1 RBI, while Ernesto Martinez would put two balls in play.
The Rattlers and Sky Carp will square off in game two of their six-game set tonight in Appleton.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. on a night that will also feature Dime Dogs and a Weiner Dog Race.
