The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers started strong yesterday and held off a comeback attempt by the Quad Cities River Bandits on the road to secure a 5-4 win.
The Rattlers plated four runs in the 2nd inning and added a fifth in the 3rd, but from there out, they couldn’t get much more offense going.
The Bandits would score twice in the 3rd and 6th innings, but closer Sam Gardner would come on with two outs left in the 8th and slam the door.
He allowed just one baserunner for his second save of the season.
Nick Merkel would get the win in relief. Joe Gray Jr. would lead the Rattler offensive attack with a pair of hits on five plate appearances, and he, along with Matthew Wood, knocked in two runs apiece.
The Rattlers will look to secure a win of the six-game series tonight.
First pitch at Modern Woodman Park in Davenport Iowa is scheduled for 5:00 p.m., with Cameron Wagoner facing William Fleming on the mound.
