The battle for the top spot in the Northwoods League’s Great Lakes West Division remains hot as three teams are within one game of the crown.
The Green Bay Rockers kept themselves within half a game of the top spot yesterday with an 8-3 win over the Madison Mallards.
The Rockers pounded out 14 hits in the win, four of which came from Carlos Hernandez, while Jack Holman used his two hits to bring home 4 runs, including a three-run homer in the 4th.
On the mound, Brett Sanchez nearly when the distance, securing all but the final out while allowing 8 hits and 3 earned runs.
He also struck out seven batters while only walking one.
The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters currently hold the West Division lead, half a game ahead of the Rockers, while the Wausau Woodchucks are one game back.
The Rockers are in Madison again today, taking on the struggling Mallards.
Kyle Stoddard will battle Luke Reed at Warner Park with a 5:05 p.m. first pitch.
