It was a good weekend for local semi-pro football teams as both the Manitowoc County Mariners and the Sheboygan County SaberCats added a tally in the win column.
The Mariners toppled the Wisconsin Ravens 12-6 on the back of dominant defensive performances by defensive end Latreal Betton, who recorded 4 tackles and 2 sacks, and safety Cory Oligney, who nabbed 2 interceptions along with 4 tackles.
Their next game isn’t until July 8th, when the Fox River Raiders invade Rubick Field.
Meanwhile, at Lakeland University, the SaberCats took advantage of a shorthanded Chicago Falcons squad and won decisively, 28-0.
The Falcons only had 13 players show up, while the SaberCats had a full sideline.
The Cat’s defense snagged 3 interceptions and recovered a fumble which was returned for a touchdown to help lead the team to their 5th win of the season.
The SaberCats also have a few weeks off, as their next game will be at home against the Central Wisconsin Wolves on July 15th.
