Wisconsin’s towns, counties, and cities are currently awaiting their portion of the new shared revenue law.
Governor Evers gave the plan his signature Tuesday, describing it as a historic investment in local government.
The new law will distribute 20 percent of the state’s sales tax to local governments, but it stipulates that the funds must be used for roads, EMS, fire, and police services.
Milwaukee and Milwaukee County may also raise their sales taxes under the new law.
A $300 million innovation fund for the rest of the state is also available to encourage local governments to consider mergers and consolidations.
