Join Lakeshore’s United Visionaries (L.U.V.) and Manitowoc Public Library for another virtual panel discussion/community conversation that we’re calling “Belonging: Reclaiming Queer,” taking place this Wednesday, June 21, at 6 PM.
The focus of the conversation will be placed—plainly stated—on queerness: terminology and definitions, queer culture, and how unique intersections play a part in finding community. The panel will livestream on both Manitowoc Public Library’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/manitowoclibrary) and YouTube channel, as well as Lakeshore’s United Visionaries Facebook page. We hope that you’ll be able to join us for this engaging, inclusive conversation. And since this program will be taking place in real time, if you’d like to join in, just type your comments/questions into the “Comments” section of either platform and, assuming that it’s on-topic, we’ll work it into the conversation!
It only seemed appropriate that L.U.V. would bring you an opportunity to participate in a meaningful discussion on queer topics in culture and intersectional identities in order to honor Pride Month. But, quite honestly, these topics are crucial not only during Pride Month, but all year-round. Join us for a deeper understanding of not only what it means to be queer, but also how queer culture intersects with mainstream culture. It’s all about shedding light on a topic that might not always be a comfortable conversational starting point and to further the understanding of the LGBTQIA+ community in a safe and affirming way.

This panel is part of a series where L.U.V. addresses topics we feel are pertinent to our community members. We are grateful to partner with Manitowoc Public Library to present themes that are relevant and timely. L.U.V. was created in 2020 in the wake of the George Floyd murder. Our mission is to uplift the lives of marginalized individuals. Our goal is to recognize intersectional identities through allyship, awareness, education, understanding, and love. We are devoted to helping and supporting our racially and ethnically diverse community, making our community more welcoming and inclusive in the process.
With that in mind, it’s easy to see why a conversation about “Belonging” is an ideal subject in today’s world, most especially during Pride Month. Be a part of the online conversation this Wednesday, June 21, from 6-8 PM. See you then!
