Two area girls’ soccer teams had a day to remember Saturday, as Kiel and Plymouth each won their respective state tournament.
The Raiders girls battled Cedar Grove-Belgium in the Division 4 finale at Uihlein Soccer Park in a game knotted at 5 when time expired.
One overtime was not enough, so a second overtime was played, where Taavi Seager scored the game-winner with assists from Taylor Shad and Jasmine Bink.
Seager had two goals on the day, while Shad led the Raiders with 4 goals.
Katelyn Uselding made 10 saves in net for Kiel.
Plymouth, meanwhile, was able to hold off a late surge by Edgewood in the Division 3 championship game to earn a 2-1 win.
Melina Knowles and Sarah Welsch scored in the 59th and 60th minutes to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead, but Edgewood’s Isabel Iannacchino would nail a shot into the upper left corner in the 73rd minute to get within one.
Plymouth’s defense wouldn’t allow another shot on net for the rest of the contest, securing the win.
Panther goalie Paige Kirtz would pick up 6 saves in the win.
