Federal environmentalists will be in Manitowoc County starting today to conduct a cleanup effort on Pigeon Lake.
The Environmental Protection Agency was called in by the DNR after an abandoned 55-gallon drum was found leaking something into the lake.
The DNR removed the barrel and testing determined that the leaking substance contained lead concentrations that are above EPA limitations.
Three additional drums were located at the bottom of Pigeon Lake, and they are also believed to contain the same material.
The EPA will be at the lake starting today and will be using divers and a crane to get them out and properly disposed of.
Crews will remain on the scene possibly through Thursday.
