The Wisconsin Department of Tourism released 2022 economic impact data, and the outlook is good.
According to the report, tourism generated a record-breaking $23.7 billion in total economic impact, with the highest-ever overnight visitation helping fuel the growth.
Manitowoc County played a significant role in these unprecedented stats, contributing $216 million in total economic impact, or just under 1% of the statewide total.
Two local tourism leaders are voicing their pride in that statistic, as Visit Manitowoc Director Courtney Hansen called it “an exciting moment for Manitowoc’s growing tourism industry.”
Brian Dean, the Director of Tourism in Two Rivers said that he is not surprised by the stat, noting that Manitowoc County is “home to the most beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline and its best beaches.”
Explore Two Rivers and Visit Manitowoc have been working together over the past year to help drive those numbers even higher and keep the momentum going.
Also of note in the report, Sheboygan County accounted for $439 million in total economic impact, accounting for 1.8% of the statewide number.
The largest contributor was Milwaukee County, which accounted for $3.9 billion, or roughly 16.5% of the total.
