June 12th will officially be known as Ronald Reagan Freedom Day in Wisconsin.
Representative Paul Tittl brought forth this proposal, noting that June 12th, 1987 is the day Reagan stood infromnt of the Berlin Wall and demanded “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”
The wall, of course, separated East and West Germany, with the East being run by the East German Communist Party and the West by the German Democratic Republic.
Two years later, the wall was down and the country was reunited.
As for why Rep. Tittl aimed to create the holiday, he said, “My hope is that this resolution might help us to remember this event so we never take our freedom for granted.”
