Milwaukee might not receive any of the $500 million that will be distributed to local governments throughout the rest of the state.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos suggested that in order for lawmakers to reach a consensus, they might remove the shared revenue plan’s provisions that apply only to Milwaukee.
Vos claims he doesn’t want to, but he also warns that there is a limited amount of time left to reach a shared revenue agreement and a compromise on the remaining state budget.
Governor Evers and the Senate Majority Leader support letting city and county officials independently raise the sales taxes, while Vos wants to let Milwaukee and Milwaukee County voters decide whether to do so.
Vos claims he wants a deal to be completed by the end of the week.
