Nearing the end of the school year, high-school seniors all over the state are starting to make decisions and plans for college. One massive part of that is applications, and what to put on them. Mishicot senior Clara Butler has filled her resume to the brim with her commitments and achievements.
As a Mishicot resident, Butler has formed countless relationships with her peers and teachers. Since Mishicot is a small town, she’s pretty much grown up around the same people for her entire life. She’s not afraid to befriend anyone or to stand up for the people she loves.
Clara has been surrounded by music her entire life, with seven years of experience in both band and choir. She took first place at state solo and ensemble three years in a row and rounded out her high school career with a perfect score this year for her performance of “Gimme Gimme” from the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie.
Clara also starred in seven musicals such as Peter Pan, Aladdin, Mulan, and Mamma Mia! through her younger years, starring in the lead role multiple times. She often performed alongside her younger sisters Emily, Adeline, and Maggie. She participated in FFA (Future Farmers of America) State Honors Choir and the All-State Treble Choir, a prestigious program featuring Wisconsin’s best female treble singers.
Aside from being heavily involved in music, Clara Butler played a variety of sports. Butler was involved in dance and basketball for six years, as well as two years of volleyball, one year of cross-country, five years of softball, and five total years in track and field, where she competes in the discus and shot put. Most of her nights are spent at sporting events either for herself, or her siblings, or helping her team.
Even with all of that on her plate, Clara still makes time for both friends and family. Living in a family with five younger siblings, she’s always in a full house of craziness, or at her job at Starbucks, where business is always booming.
All these accomplishments gave Clara the opportunity to be accepted to her dream college, Stevens Point, where she will be studying history and social studies education. She wants to give more students a chance to learn in a fun environment and to look forward to learning history. Having a full resume can also give her the chance to receive various scholarships so she can make that dream possible.
When asked about her high school experience, Clara said that “[she has] so many good memories that always make [her] smile when looking back on the years.”
“All of those things have given me many skills to have in life, and they’ve all helped me to gain my confidence…and to just have fun and joy with whatever I do in life,” she stated. She would tell her younger self to “stop caring about what other people think and all the materialistic things in life because none of that stuff matters.”
Clara is ready to head to Stevens Point, despite all the friendships and relationships that will be left behind. It will be bittersweet, to be sure. But, looking back at her high school years, Clara can hold her head up high knowing that she worked hard, was involved in many things that brought her joy, and “never let them haters get to [her].”
