A state senator from Madison incited some resentment with her Memorial Day message.
When she stated, “We must remember the countless innocent civilian lives that have been lost in the United States’ unethical war efforts,” Democratic Senator Melissa Agard received a lot of backlash online.
She added that Memorial Day is for “the people of color and immigrants who have served and died, whose own country refused, and continues to refuse, to treat them equally” as well as “the women who faced sexism and violence within the military.”
Her message offended many conservatives, especially on Memorial Day.
